Osinbajo in a secret meeting with top NASS officials

The acting president, Yemi Osinbajo, has held a closed door meeting with speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, and other principal officers of the lower chamber.

The Punch reports that the meeting was held on Thursday night, July 13, in Osinbajo’s official residence, Aguda House, inside the Presidential Villa, Abuja at about 10pm.

The meeting which is believed to be part of efforts aimed at resolving friction between the National Assembly and the executive was also attended by some presidential aides in the company of the acting president.

wopnews recalls that members of the House of Representatives issued a seven day ultimatum to Osinbajo to swear-in and allocate portfolio to the two ministers designates from Kogi and Gombe states on Tuesday, July 11.

Osinbajo had issues with the Senate who recently called for the suspension of considation and confirmation of appointment by President Muhammadu Buhari over a comment credited to acting president that executive appointments did not require legislative approval based on Section 171 of the Constitution.

While strongly condemning Osinbajo for the comment, the lawmakers successively asked that an embargo should be placed on confirmation of executive appointments pending the time the powers of the legislature had been recognised.
