Okowa Stop Clearing Of Waterways in Delta State

The Delta state governor Senator Okowa Ifeanyi  have stopped the on going clearing of waterways that have reduce the flooding in Ughelli and it's environs.

With some part of warri,  sapala and udu still remaining for clearing. The delta government should use Delta State Direct Labour Agency to complete on job and save Deltans for flood.

"He said the project was stopped due to the recent freezing of the Paris-London Club Refund bank accounts of  Delta states by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court"

He also said "some part of the clear age in Sapale,  Warri and Udu and still left undone."

Delta State is in Niger Delta and badly affected by flood. Five years ago, the worst flooding in more than 40 years in Nigeria claimed lives and displaced  thousands of people, according to the country's National Emergency Management Agency

The rainy season usually runs from July to September in delta state and every year it poses the threat of devastation and destruction across the state, claiming lives and destroying property.

So far this year, several people have been displaced with many people packing to villages,  the height of the rainy season tends to be from July to September, and it is often a time of anxiety for many communities living in flood-prone areas. Heavy rains, combined with poor drainage systems and blocked waterways cause rainwater to flow through commercial and residential dwellings.

The clearing of waterways has reduce the water in Ughelli and reduced flood.
