Society of Engineers Applauds NNPC for Stabilizing Petroleum Products Supply

The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) has commended the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) for stabilizing the supply and distribution of petroleum products and for crashing the price of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) otherwise known as diesel across the length and breadth of the country. NSE President, Engr. Otis Anyaeji, gave this commendation when he paid a visit to the Group Managing Director (GMD) of NNPC, Dr. Maikanti Baru, in Abuja on Tuesday. Engr. Trouble as Igbo group replies Arewa Youths

A High Court sitting in Rivers has found three persons guilty of the murder of four students who were lynched in Aluu community in 2012. The court presided over by Justice Nyordee also discharged and acquitted four others, who standing trial for the 2012 murder. According to the Judge, the prosecution failed to prove its case of murder against the 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th accused persons beyond every reasonable doubt. T he Arewa Youths Coalition is set to withdraw the October 1 quit notice handed Igbo in the North to leave. The youths were waving the olive branch after a meeting with Borno State Governor Kashim Shettima in Abuja yesterday. Arewa Youth Coalition spokesman Abdulaziz Suleiman told reporters that consultations were ongoing among members with a view to withdrawing the quit notice. Already, 16 states, including the commercial hub Lagos, and Parr of the Niger Delta and Ughelli North have been badly affected. The bill was sponsored by Chukwuka Utazi, the Senator representing Enugu North Senatorial District, was passed by the Senate after the committee on anti-corruption and financial crimes in its report recommended that the bill be considered. After the consideration of the bill, the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Agency (Est, etc.) Bill, 2017 (SB. 535), the Senate further dissolved into the committee of the whole for clause by clause consideration of the report. The bill, the sponsor said, is closer to making the financial intelligence unit of the EFCC independent. It was gathered that the sponsorship of the bill was sequel to the EFCC's move to re-position the NFIU and make it autonomous under the commission.

Nine Soldiers Killed as Nigerian Army rescued kidnapped NNPC officials

The Nigerian Army lost nine of his soldiers and a civilian were also killed after Boko Haram members kidnapped Nigerian oil workers who were on an oil exploration mission in the Lake Chad basin. The Nigerian Army, in a statement by its spokesperson, brigadier general Sani Usman, confirmed the casualty. He said the kidnapped oil workers, who were recruited by the state oil firm, NNPC, had been rescued. “So far, they (troops) have rescued all the NNPC staff and recovered the corpses of the officer, 8 soldiers and a civilian who have been deposited at the 7 Division Medical Services and Hospital.” Mr. Usman said without giving the total number of rescued NNPC officials. The Nigeria Army has promoted soldiers fighting Boko Haram in the North East in recognition of their service to the nation, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, approved the special promotion of 6,199 of them. In a statement released by the Director, Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Sani Usman. The soldiers serving in Operation LAFIYA Dole were promoted to various ranks between Lance Corporal to Warrant Officers. According to the statement, 329 Staff Sergeants were promoted to Warrant Officers, 371 Sergeants were promoted to Staff Sergeants and 707 Corporals were promoted to Sergeants. Also, 1,290 Lance Corporals were promoted to Corporals, while 3,502 Privates were promoted to Lance Corporals. The Chief of Army Staff, who congratulated the soldiers for their promotion, called on them to intensify their efforts in clearing the remaining Boko Haram terrorists from the North East.

At least 1300 candidates from 12 political parties are vying for chairmanship and councillorship positions in the just concluded election. The ruling All Progressives Congress has so far had a sweeping victory at the polls. The results announced so far show that the APC has won in all the 14 local governments announced so far. Osinbajo, service chiefs currently in closed-door meeting

The Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo is currently in a closed-door meeting with the service chiefs at the Vice President’s wing of the Presidential Villa, Aso Rock, Abuja. Those in attendance are: Chief of Defence Staff, General Gabriel Abayomi Olonishakin, the Chief of Army Staff, General Tukur Burata and the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar. Also in attendance are the Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari; the National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno; the Minister of Defence, Mansur Dan-Ali and the Governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima.

As both chambers of the National Assembly begin the clause-by-clause consideration of the proposed amendments to the 1999 Constitution on Tuesday, Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has described the process as another ‘Promise Kept’ by the 8th National Assembly. In a statement by his Media Office, the Senate President described the constitution amendment process as the fulfillment of a major commitment the 8th Senate made to Nigerians at the commencement of their tenure in 2015. “You will recall that when we first came into office, I made a promise that we will amend the Constitution to reflect new realities that have arisen. Now, we are doing just that.
